Job Description: Product Manager

Job Overview

The Product Manager will take new features on the EMGuidance platform from idea to launch. They will work with our clinical, engineering, design and commercial teams to understand the problem a feature needs to solve, map out how healthcare professionals will use it, and translate that into clear user flows, specifications and priorities the development team can build from. Just as importantly, they will think about how each feature fits into the wider EMGuidance platform, including our medicines and guideline content, clinical decision support and AI tools, education and CPD offering, and partner integrations, so that the product grows as one coherent experience rather than a set of disconnected features. The key outcome or measure of success is features that ship on time, are adopted by our users, and deliver measurable value to clinicians and partners. Medical or healthcare experience is a strong advantage. The best person would be one that wants to use their skills to support a business that is changing healthcare.

Job Location

Ideally the person would be based in Cape Town with a hybrid setup and an expectation of up to 50% office time.

Job Requirements

The following points outline the job requirements:

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of new features, from discovery and definition through to launch and iteration.
  • Map out user journeys, workflows and feature flows (e.g. flow diagrams, wireframes, user stories) before development starts.
  • Assess how each new feature fits into the existing EMGuidance platform architecture, content and user experience, and identify dependencies and impacts on other products.
  • Write clear product requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria for the development team.
  • Maintain and prioritise the product backlog and contribute to the product roadmap with the leadership team.
  • Work closely with engineering and design in sprint planning, refinement and review to keep delivery on track.
  • Gather and synthesise input from healthcare professionals, internal clinical experts and partners through interviews, feedback and usability testing.
  • Translate partner and client requirements (e.g. medical schemes, hospital groups, pharma and funders) into product solutions that work within the platform.
  • Work with the clinical team to make sure features are clinically sound, safe and aligned with guidelines and governance processes.
  • Define success metrics for features and track adoption, engagement and impact after launch.
  • Coordinate testing, release readiness and go-live, including communication to users, support and commercial teams.
  • Contribute to the product direction for AI-enabled features, including how they are evaluated and safely introduced to users.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practices.

Skills/Attribute of candidate:

  • Must be able to break down a feature idea into user flows, process maps and clear written specifications.
  • Must be able to think at platform level - how a new feature connects to existing products, data and users.
  • Experience with product and design tools such as Linear or Jira, Miro, Figma and Google Workspace.
  • Comfortable working with developers and understanding technical concepts (APIs, data models, integrations) without needing to code.
  • Understanding of user-centred design and usability testing.
  • Ability to prioritise ruthlessly and make trade-offs between user value, effort and business goals.
  • Comfortable using data and analytics to make product decisions.
  • Understanding of the South African healthcare environment (clinicians, medical schemes, public and private sector) is advantageous.
  • Interest in, or experience with, AI-enabled products is advantageous.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication, including with clinical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in product management, product ownership or a closely related role (e.g. business analysis, UX) in a digital product team.
  • Demonstrated experience mapping out and launching new features end-to-end on a web or mobile platform.
  • Experience writing product requirements and working in an agile development team.
  • Medical or healthcare experience is a strong advantage (e.g. clinical background such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy or allied health, or product experience in health-tech).
  • Experience in a start-up, scale-up or venture-funded business is very advantageous.
  • Experience with B2B, SaaS or partner-facing products (e.g. medical schemes, hospital groups, pharma) is advantageous.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g. health sciences, information systems, engineering, computer science or business) required
  • Clinical qualification (e.g. MBChB, BPharm, nursing or allied health) advantageous
  • Product management or agile certification (e.g. CSPO, PSPO, Pragmatic Institute) advantageous
